The second book on this list is an excellent short book called: The Art of War by Sun Tzu.

Written more then 2000 years ago, this is another great short book, that can be read in a day.

This is “NOT” a book about war as much as it is a book about management.  Understanding your people and understanding your adversaries, whether in business or during a disaster is crucial for success.  This is a simplistic book that lives through the generations, because the principals are timeless.  Knowing yourself, knowing your people and knowing the forces working against you are what make great leaders great.

This book is great for college students, emergency managers and anyone aspiring to lead.

If you have read it, or if you decide to read it, drop me an email at dhagelgans@millersville.edu to let me know your thoughts.

If you have not yet read last months book, The Checklist Manifesto, Christmas break is a good time to sit down and get organized.  If you have read it, drop me an email and let me know your thoughts.
